The Nature Day
It was one of those days in the school holiday I was bored. My mum was working as a field teacher at the local reserve so dad suggested we went with her. The sun was shinning when we got up but the second we got in the car the rain cloud hovered above us. It was an Evans tradition every time we went somewhere the rain cloud hovered above us a bit like eeyore from winnie the pooh. As we drove along a painful wailing noise came from the front of the car my mum had decided to sing it was going to be torture. As we drove along I looked at all the rabbits sitting on the floor near the road it was a great sight. The raindrops tricked down the window I loved watching the pattern it made. My heart sank lying on the side of the road was a dead badger why do people have to drive so fast I was feeling sad. The sun came out again as we pulled into the lodge my mum got out and went to do what she had to do. Dad and me got our backpacks sand binoculars and sent of on our hunt. We had only got to the bridge when we saw a water vole sitting on his little bed he was munching on the reeds he was not bothered that he had people looking at him. He was like black velvet what a start. The dragonflies were flying about and the swifts were screeching through the sky. As we walked along we saw more rabbits, chaffinch, greenfinch, robin, bluetits the butterflies were sitting on the lovely plants and trees. As we walked along the river I saw something on the pathway as we walked with caution it slithered closer it was a grass snake as we got nearer he went into the reeds. As we walked on the bearded t1ts sat on top of the reeds what a wonderful sight we were seeing so many things. I had my bug kit and found ladybirds and beetles I could hear the grasshoppers in the bushes. As I looked into the sky the seagulls were making a wonderful formation as they all flew into the sky together it looked liked diamonds. As we walked on our cloud was coming back I caught a glimpse of a magnificent bird drifting on the therminals it was a marsh harrier his wings were wide-open wow I thought. The raindrops started to trickle then got heavier and heavier we went into a hide to keep dry. Suddenly it was like a scene from Jurassic park the reeds moved and the noise got louder but we could not see anything dad said it was a water rail but it was scary we knew it was their but couldn’t see it. We sat for a while I was getting bored so we decided to make a run for it back to mum. When we got their she was under a tent with about thirty people getting wetter and wetter. We went and waited in the car and mum turned up she was soaked. We got in the car and as we left a deer stood near the road what a great day. Well it was until the terrible wailing started again I hoped we got home soon I could not put up with the singing again,
