Sally and the Night Sky
There was a little girl named Sally, every night she would lay awake in her bed, look at the sky and say a prayer that maybe someday she could have a bit of it. Sally would look at the bright moon and wish that she could have pieces cut out and strung on a necklace, and the shooting star as part of it as well. She wished for the dark, blue sky to be her gown, the stars as her shoes and one in her hair. One night the moon was especially large and bright, and she wished so hard that she was swept up into the sky and everything that she wanted came true. The moon and shooting stars where her necklace and the sky her gown. The little stars where her hair ornaments and the larger ones her shoes. When she had finished she looked at herself, started to swirl around in the sky until she looked up and gasped. The sky looked bare without pieces. The night looked extra dark with no moon and no stars. Shooting stars gave a wonderful glow, but now that was gone. Little Sally thought about how lovely her gown was, but how lonely the sky looked. She had to make a decision, to give the night sky back its glory or to keep it for herself just one night. Sally slipped off the gown and placed it back in the sky. The moon she put back in its place next to all the stars. She placed the shooting star in the sky and watched it zoom around. Sally crawled back into her bed and lay there looking at the sky. It was beautiful. She felt much better not keeping it, because it looked more wonderful where it was than on her. Sally drifted off to sleep and the moon smiled down.
